Car

In the event of a car accident you should obtain, at the scene of the accident, the following information:

  • Identification of the drivers involved;
  • Identification of the vehicles involved;
  • Insurance identification (number of policies and name of Insurer);
  • Identify witnesses and collect their contact details;
  • If an agreement can be reached on how the accident occurred, drivers should complete the same Amicable Motor Accident Statement (AAD). Each driver should keep a copy and give it to their Broker;
  • Whenever possible you should take photographs of the damage and of the accident scene
  • If no agreement can be reached on how the accident occurred and/or there is damage/bodily injury, the police should be requested to be present.

To complete the Friendly Declaration it is not necessary for either driver to plead guilty.

However, delivery of the AAD is essential for the functioning of the IDS system - Direct Indemnity to the Insured, which speeds up the settlement of the claim, as each Insured deals directly with their own Insurer, who takes charge of settling the claim, which represents an important advantage.

For the IDS system to work, it becomes necessary:

  • correctly completed and signed by both parties;
  • Only two vehicles are involved;
  • There has been a direct clash between them;
  • The accident occurred in Portugal;
  • No bodily harm;
  • The material damage does not exceed EUR 15,000 per vehicle.

Participation Claim

You should complete the Amiable Motor Accident Statement (AAD).

How to fill in DAAA

To report an Auto Claim you must complete the DAAA.

The front of the AAD must be completed by the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident, the back of the AAD must be completed by the policyholder.

The following is an explanation of the correct completion of the AAD.

Description of the fields

1. Fill in the field with the date and time of the accident;

2. Specify the location of the accident (country, town, street, etc.);

3. Indicate whether there are any injuries (even if only slight) resulting from the accident;

4. Indicate whether there is any material damage (broken glass, broken bumpers, dents, etc.):

  • in vehicles other than A and B (those mentioned in the declaration);
  • on objects other than vehicles (e.g. damage to the road, traffic lights, road signs, etc.);

5. State whether there are any witnesses to the accident and their contact details (names, addresses and telephone numbers). The existence of witnesses is sometimes essential for the establishment of responsibilities! If there are no witnesses, write "No witnesses" in the field;

6. Indicate the insured/insurance provider* in accordance with the information on the green card or policy, and their respective contact details;

7. Enter the vehicle data according to the fields: make, model, registration (and trailer registration - camping, agricultural, cargo, etc. - if available) and country;

8. Indicate all details regarding the insurer and broker that can be found on your insurance Green Card. You should also indicate whether property damage is covered by the policy.

9. Fill in all the details for the driver

  • name, address, telephone and/or e-mail;
  • driving licence number, category and expiry date.

10. Use an arrow to indicate the initial point of collision;

Some description

11. State any visible damage that has resulted from the accident in question (e.g. broken bumpers and blinkers);

12. Indicate, with crosses, the circumstances that best describe the accident that occurred. Do not forget to put at the end of the list the total number of crosses corresponding to each vehicle!

13. Draw out, as accurately as possible, the circumstances of the accident so that, together with the other data supplied, it will be easier to ascertain responsibility. They should be marked:

  • the damaged vehicles involved;
  • direction of travel;
  • dashes and/or lines on the track;
  • existing signage;
  • metres of braking;
  • exact location of the collision;
  • where the vehicles were immobilised;
  • position at the time of the clash;

Some description

14. Indicate any observations that you consider pertinent and that complement the information already declared; in this space you may also contest the declarations given by the other driver;

15. The signatures of both parties involved in the claim are essential for the AAD to be valid. The signatures must be identical to those on the I.D.

The back of the friendly declaration of the automobile accident:

  • The reverse side of the AAD is the report of the claim and can be completed later and does not have to be completed in the presence of the other party to the claim.
  • The additional information in it is very useful to speed up the settlement of the claim, so it should be filled in as completely and accurately as possible, essentially if:
         - there are injuries;
         - doubts remain about the claim and you do not agree with any clause of the AAD;
         - more than 2 vehicles are involved;
         - if it involves any foreign registrations;

Important: The back of the AAD, unlike the front, is filled in by the policyholder and not by the driver. In the case of a company, the company stamp must be affixed. After completing the back of the AAD, you must return it to your insurer or broker within 8 days.

As an alternative to participation through the AAD

Claim reporting can be done through E-Segurnet, an app created by the Portuguese Insurers Association.

The e-SEGURNET application facilitates the participation and communication of a motor accident to your insurer.

This app also allows you to keep your data and that of your vehicles easily accessible. The geolocation, use of photos and help in filling out the form make it easy to report when the accident happens!
